I love the new concept of echo shards, but I think minecraft is at its best when there is a sense of mastery and player-agency at the core of loot acquisition.
The new skulk mechanic and the sprite for the new echo shard got me thinking.. What if instead of looting from a chest, the player creates echo shards by spreading skulk onto an amethyst culuster, turning it into an Echo Shard cluster! This could be broken into echo shards, or silk touched for an aesthetic block.
This creates a unique incentive for players to interact with two new(ish) features, increases a sense of player ageny, and mechanically reinforces the aesthetic association of magical themes many players imply in the use of amethyst in builds.
This also opens a variety of additional possibilities:
- aesthetic echo shard clusters and echo shard buds, for a dark skulky crystal variety
- potential interaction of skulk and Budding Amethyst Blocks, to create a new block with unique functionality (perhaps an "Echo Node" that could alter or emhance the return of EXP in a surrounding perimeter of skulk generated in the area or perhaps even be used to fuel or enhance spawners for additional rates)
- other fun unique functionality, drop your ideas om the comments!
Personally I would love to see the light-magic themes of Minecraft reinforced and diversified, this seems like a practical way to enrich those themes and stay true to the core of Minecrafts vanilla design philosophy.
