Taking advantadge of the chest boats that will be implemented on 1.19, I think it could also be nice to upgrade the mechanics on how boats work.
The main change that would be super useful would be allowing boats to do a small hop (maybe 0.25-1 block). There's nothing more frustrating than getting stuck on a path block with a boat and not being able to come out because one pixel isn't letting you. Ideally the jump would keep your momentum going, it wouldn't just stop you dead on your tracks. It could be executed by simply pressing spacebar, and the idea is that you boost yourself upwards with the paddles.
Moreover, please fix boat collisions, or at least make them server-side instead of client-side. I (with a couple friends) run Ice Boat Racing competitions on the regular, and there's nothing more frustrating than sliding around at high speeds, then tapping the back of a boat and instantly losing all your speed, because boats on servers are only a "reflection" of the real position.
