From Silt to Loam, there are many types of Dirt! Up to now, we've had many earth variants across biomes, some dry and affected by gravity, like Gravel and Sand, some changed by plants around them, like Podzol and Rooted Dirt. There's also Mud, Clay, and Terracotta. But these all existed in their own categories. Now, they all work together, and just like you can go from Cobblestone to Stone to Stone Bricks, you can go from one Dirt variant to another, once you learn about its properties! (Insert actual soil science here.) By giving Dirt a more scientifically accurate treatment, we hope that players will enjoy digging in and getting some mud on their hands (literally!) You'll need a cauldron nearby to wash your Armor in, as several Dirt types will make it dirty. Cleaning off Armor in the Cauldron will create "Muddy Water," a new liquid type! It looks and behaves like water, but it's brown, not blue. Animals will also get "muddy," and they'll enjoy it if you clean them off with Sponges! Normally you find those in Ocean Monuments, but now you can also trade for them from the Wandering Trader. When plants are in their favorite soil type, they'll only require a single Bonemeal to grow! And you'll appreciate being able craft all the different soil types in a Crafting Table, by balancing the different ratios. Dirt is the thing that we take for granted, even though it makes up for so much of our environment, and like water and sunlight, all life is dependent on it!
