The problem here is that while the 1.18 Caves & Cliffs update did give us breathtaking mountains and massive caves, mining through the stone can still feel monotonous. Digging through thousands of blocks of identical Stone blocks and small patches of andesite, granite, or diorite often feels boring to me instead of adventurous.
By introducing distinct, horizontal or vertical geological rock bands such as limestone, marble, shale, gneiss, and/or conglomerate, then piling them up from sedimentary(top), metamorphic(middle) to igneous(bottom), these would seemingly replace segments of ordinary stone.
Why this would be a big win for everyone...
- It should be 0 risk to world gen. The idea should respect the developers' hard work by not altering the existing terrain, height limits, or noise thingies. It should work exactly like the current generation logic for andesite, diorite, and granite, meaning older worlds won't experience glitched chunk borders.
- It keeps the deepslate layer. It should only affect the stone layer.
- This should bring another classic joy of discovery. Players can visually track geological layers to navigate underground, map out cave systems without relying on coordinates and enjoy a vibrant, visually rewarding mining experience plus new blocks for buidling and decorating.
