Add full offhand support to Bedrock for keyboard/mouse and controller-less (OTG) players first
Hello Mojang team,
Bedrock Edition's offhand slot is very limited right now (mostly shields, totems and maps), while Java Edition players can use it for torches, arrows, food and more. This gives Java players an advantage in PvP, caving and building.
I understand that adding offhand to touch controls is a hard design problem. So my suggestion is to release it in stages:
1. Enable full offhand support first for players using keyboard and mouse (PC, and mobile/tablet with OTG keyboard and mouse).
2. Add an F key (swap main hand and offhand) and let right-click use the offhand item, with Sneak to avoid triggering it, the same way Java does.
3. For touch players, add a solution later, for example a customizable on-screen swap button or a double-tap on the hotbar slot.
This way a large group of players gets the feature soon, without waiting for the touch controls design, and Bedrock gets closer to Java parity.
Thank you for reading!
