Right now, sky and atmospheric visuals in Bedrock—like sky colors, horizon gradients, fog density, and scattering—are locked into static JSON files (fogs/*.json, biome JSONs, and graphics configs). Because these are only read when the world loads, there is no way to adjust or transition environmental visuals live while playing.
On Java Edition, mods like Atmospherics let players and creators tweak lighting, fog, and sky colors on the fly or adjust them through custom menus. On Bedrock, if an Add-on creator wants to make a custom weather system, a toxic storm, or let players tweak atmospheric settings, the only option is forcing the player to quit to the main menu, swap a sub-pack preset, and reload the world.
We need Script API overrides to trigger smooth transitions for fog and sky parameters through @minecraft/server, such as changing fog distances, zenith colors, or scatter intensity for specific players, dimensions, or events. We also need Molang support in visual JSONs so lighting and sky colors can react dynamically to player height, custom weather tags, or game states.
This would allow creators to build real-time sandstorms, eclipse events, boss fight atmospheres, or custom dimension effects. It would also give creators a way to let players adjust heavy fog, bloom, or glare through in-game menus if it affects visibility or performance.
Unlocking live atmospheric parameters in Render Dragon and the Script API would give Bedrock creators the tools to build so much.
