The Trough - Item to keep your animals close to home

Dear Mojang, I am sure many other players also have the issue of animals leaving their home base area. I like the idea of having a free range farm in minecraft, rather than having to close my chickens and cows in with a fence, where it feels like I am running a battery farm, I would like them to be able to roam but stay close to home. The idea that I am proposing is an item called the Trough, this item will be two blocks wide, made using Iron and could use a similar graphic to a cauldron, but the length of a double chest. When filled with the item that a type of animal eats, eg. Wheat for cows, every type of animal within a chunk of distance around that trough will not leave that distance area while the trough is full. The trough will also act as an auto feeder for your animals, allowing them to breed independently. This should also allow for some silly ideas, like a trough full of slime for frogs, I know I have the issue currently of my frogs leaving an island base to swim in the sea. Please consider my idea.
