I would like Minecraft Java Edition to include an official feature that allows servers to automatically provide their required mods to players.
My friends and I want to launch Minecraft using the normal launcher and join a modded server without manually installing or updating mod loaders, individual mods, or modpacks.
How this feature could work:
-
Server owners configure the required mods and their versions.
-
When joining, Minecraft displays the mod list and total download size.
-
After the player approves, Minecraft automatically downloads and loads the mods and their dependencies.
-
If a restart is required, Minecraft offers to restart and reconnect automatically.
-
Whenever the server’s modpack changes, players are informed and receive the matching updates.
Each server should have its own separate mod profile to prevent conflicts between different modpacks and the player’s normal Minecraft installation.
The feature should include a secure execution environment and clear permissions for downloaded mods. An official modding API could provide the foundation; existing mods might need to be adapted to support it.
This would make playing modded Minecraft together much easier. Players without technical experience could join modded servers without dealing with installation guides, missing dependencies, or mismatched mod versions.
