How it would work:
-
Minecraft needs Dirt Slabs to allow for smooth rolling hills, realistic riverbanks, and detailed landscaping. To make this feature complete, every existing dirt variant should receive a matching slab that retains its unique properties.Variant Mechanics:
- Grass & Mycelium Slabs: Standard Dirt Slabs can be infected by adjacent grass or mycelium blocks to become organic slabs.
- Dirt Path Slabs: Right-clicking a grass or dirt slab with a shovel flattens it into a path slab, allowing for smooth, gradual hiking trails.
- Coarse & Rooted Dirt Slabs: Used for detailing rough terrain. Rooted slabs allow hanging roots to dangle beneath them if the lower half of the block space is open.
- Mud & Podzol Slabs: Expand building palettes for swamps and dense forests.
Why it fits Minecraft:
Builders have wanted smooth terrain for years. This uses existing textures and block rules, keeping the game feeling purely vanilla while completely changing the game for terraformers and map makers.
