I realized I can give more info here:

-Amethyst is in the crafting recipe because amethyst does do quite a lot with sculk and sounds (calibrated sculk sensors, resonate sculk sensor vibrations, has a satisfying sound)

-More info on soul soil. It also connects to the soul theme and unlike soul sand, it's not found under the Ancient City portal. Like I said, if Mojang takes a different vision, it can be replaced with for example, with popped chorus fruit if Sift is meant to be played after the End.

-Echo Shards would be perfect if they were a easier to get. They have Echo in the name, maybe originate from the Sift, and the player's final challenge would be to navigate the Ancient City before opening the portal. They would also compete with recovery compasses which would be very useful in the Sift otherwise.

-Glow ink sacs are there to show that Sift is a vibrant and very blueish dimension. It would give it a new use and help it to differenciate from glowstone dust.

-Note block. It's a modified Note block.

-Prismarine crystals. I'll expand a bit. We don't know why Mourner pottery sherds are found where they're found. Maybe some of the descendants moved to the coast after something originally happened. They would encourage players to explore the world more. They're also blue.

The portal would be similar to the Nether portal. A new player can break the altar, but it can be rebuilt similar to the Nether portals. It's still a problem because the player would need to find a sulfur cave.

Also, currently finding an Ancient City is a bit unreliable especially if you don't know they spawn under mountains. Maybe there could be more Ancient City maps in more structures like woodland mansions and maybe in like Pillager outposts, igloos, trial chambers and mineshafts.

Sidenote: I think Ancient Cities deserve to have pots like Trial Chambers with their own pottery sherds and loot pools. They contrast to the environment similarly to the chests and makes them easier to spot
