The current Minecraft farming system has had minimal-to-no changes since its initial introduction over 15 years ago, I'm not talking about simply adding new crops or foodstuffs, but rather the system itself needs an overhaul.
Whether it be:
- seasonal/biome-specific mechanics
- a change to how crops grow and what the soil needs
- how much water or sunlight a particular plant needs
- how weather may affect growth
- more compatibility with redstone and automation and/or villagers
- the quality of a yield and how it may affect the nutrition of crafted foods
- by-products to certain crops which could be useful in other crafting recipes
- increase the amount of "wild crops" able to be found around your world to encourage players to explore, currently only wheat seeds (from grass), pumpkins and melons can be found in the wild
These are just some broad technical ideas which could be tweaked to fit a general playstyle rather than one focused on farming.
