This proposal gives the nearly useless fletching table a real crafting purpose, adds tactical ranged combat, and rewards exploring Woodland Mansions.
When hit by skeleton arrows, arrows stick to the player and apply mild slowdown (max 3 stacks). They disappear after 2 minutes, or can be manually pulled out from the player model in inventory.
Most pulled arrows drop sticks, with a rare chance to get uncraftable Primitive Arrowheads:
• Barbed: Slows enemies; may deal 1 self-damage when pulled out
• Fishbone: Stable, fast flight underwater
• Armor-Piercing: Bypasses shields and the new Mirror enchantment
A rare Ancient Arrow Template spawns in hidden Woodland Mansion rooms. It starts with 3 durability and can only be repaired with netherite ingots.
At the fletching table, this template lets players craft Ancient Arrows from copper, iron or gold nuggets, feathers and sticks. Adjust shaft length: longer shafts deal more damage with shorter range, while shorter shafts fly farther for less damage.
Ancient Arrowheads plus feathers (no shaft) craft Silent Throwing Knives. They can be thrown quickly in succession, with short range and low base damage. Their nearly silent launch sound enables stealth ambushes, perfect for clearing Woodland Mansion hallways.
The new Mirror enchantment for shields or armor reflects incoming arrows up to 3 blocks. It is mutually exclusive with Thorns to avoid overpowered defensive builds.
All special arrows and throwing knives are consumables.
