In Minecraft, you almost always go to the End. It's a great place and has a lot of potential. However, as it stands, it's nothing more than potential. There are so many ideas of what to do to it. Yet, as it stands, it's just floating islands with very few things. Yes, they are unique, but there's just so little. I feel as though new biomes are in order. After all, the last time it was updated was... well, long ago. Anyhow, I believe playing on the space aspect of it could be really cool. Imagine floating asteroids of unknown origin, floating around. New gemstone seen nowhere before with vibrant colors scattered within. Or perhaps you're exploring, looking around this barren wasteland when you turn, and see a large, strange, alien monolith. It could be a new boss, a safe haven, a way to get stronger. Truly, the possibilities are endless.
Another aspect to expand upon the fact it's floating. More specifically, the skybox resembling a dark night or universe, like it's in the sky. The Ather has been a concept since the early days of Minecraft, and it's great inspiration to pull from. Perhaps you fly high into the sky, out of pure boredom, and see something in the distance. A large, fluffy cloud, upon it sitting a flock of something. You go closer to look, and this is where you branch paths. Maybe you pick to add more dragons for a fantasy feel, or maybe you pick large birds for an ethereal feel.
And really, you can do both, too. One far below the islands above, the other far above.
