Recently, renewed interest in Herobrine has brought attention to fan theories specifically stating that WE are Herobrine's past self: Steve. Herobrine is a future version who becomes blinded by the "infinite" after learning too much of his world. Realizing what he's become, he returns to prevent his past self from making the same mistakes, risking the very future he is desperately trying to stop.
What if Minecraft introduced a new optional "Story Mode" within the game, featuring short animated cutscenes but in the same animation style as Minecraft Story Mode 2015. Triggered by significant milestones within the game, such as when you first spawn in, discovering the Nether, the End, Ancient City, etc. gradually revealing a more complex narrative to the game itself without changing original game modes.
The long-running "Removed Herobrine" patches in past updates could become part of this lore. What if his existence never truly got removed but rather temporarily erased. He wasn't an outside entity, he was a future version of Steve trying to prevent his own existence.
The longer players explore the game, while more future updates come out, subtle clues to this discovery become more impossible to ignore. Perhaps each discovery of this only brings us closer to the truth, until we realize we're not just uncovering the story of Herobrine, but become him.
Maybe there's an end waiting, or maybe the world is truly infinite with no escape, we won't understand until it's too late.
