I had an idea for a new Nether biome called Methane Grove. The main theme would be extreme cold instead of fire. The biome would have its own atmosphere, where methane snow falls like weather and slowly accumulates on the ground up to a maximum height. The main feature would be Liquid Methane, which would behave similarly to Overworld water. It could form large seas in the Nether, replacing the lava at the same Y-level in parts of the biome. It would be extremely cold and cause the player to freeze much faster than Powder Snow.
The biome could also have Methane Ice, even more slippery than Blue Ice, Methane Crystals and Methane Shards, Cold Resistance potions, Cold Protection, Frost Netherrack and Blue Nether Bricks, Frozen Nylium and Frozen Fungi, a new Frostwood wood set, Methane Cubes, Glacial Striders, Frozen Wart, new structures and possibly a transition biome.
I don't think every detail needs to be decided here. A lot of the balancing, visuals, structures, mob designs and smaller mechanics could be designed by Mojang.
The main idea is simply: what if the Nether had one biome where the danger came from extreme cold instead of extreme heat? 🥶
I think Methane Grove could make the Nether feel more varied while still fitting its existing gameplay and progression.
Thank you for taking the time to read my idea!
