A Solution for Player Frustration with Version Updates in Old Survival Worlds: Regenerating Untouched Chunks
Hello Mojang,
I propose a solution for old Survival worlds after updates. In an old Survival world, large areas of already loaded chunks cannot generate new version content, so they become "useless" and "bloated." Players are forced to abandon large explored areas just to experience new content.
I propose a new block for Survival mode: the **World Refresh Anchor**. It refreshes chunks that have been explored but not actually touched, or only lightly touched—for example, one dirt block broken. After all, most exploration is just looking for structures; players usually don't actually touch the terrain. This way, old maps can be replayable, and players won't be forced to abandon long-played saves just to experience new version content.
To find which chunks are unmodified: generate a fresh world with the same seed, then compare the two. If a chunk matches, it can be refreshed with the new version's content. If it doesn't, keep it.
Yes, the result may look buggy. But ever since the first player broke one tree block and the tree didn't fall—it just floated—buggy has been part of Minecraft's core. Players who can accept floating trees can accept a buggy world itself. It has become an unintended game style.
This is the elephant in the room. I am putting it in the fridge. You're welcome.
