water above ice blocks should grow icicles underneath.

the more compact the ice the faster they grow.

    it would make more sense if it was the less compact ice that grows faster because it melts.
    but then it melts in light.

    It looks like it will just grow naturally when attached underneath an ice block. No water necessary? Unless the icicles have a magma block some range underneath them. (Which makes sense. The heat should stop icicles from growing)
