I propose Legacy Mode, a middle ground between Survival and Hardcore where death ends your character’s journey but preserves your world.
Upon death, players lose their inventory, equipment, stored resources, XP, and progression. However, buildings, farms, and structures remain. Players respawn as a new generation, starting fresh in the same world.
Each deceased character receives a gravestone displaying their generation, survival time, and cause of death. Their grave contains a Legacy Map showing areas explored by previous generations, allowing knowledge to survive even when possessions don’t.
Abandoned settlements could attract wandering villagers after five Minecraft days. Villagers could occupy houses, establish farms, and develop trading communities.
Player actions would have consequences. If attacked, surviving villagers could establish hostile pillager settlements. At least one survivor must remain to carry that history forward.
Villagers would also depend on food stored in community chests. Shortages could cause sickness, famine, and eventually zombie outbreaks.
The goal is simple: Hardcore challenges you to survive. Legacy Mode challenges you to build something that survives you.
Players could develop civilizations spanning generations without losing hundreds of hours of creativity to one death or glitch.
