The Penguin Returns

The Penguin would be a perfect mob to inhabit rocky shores, snowy biomes, and the new ice caves. When fed any fish, it swims to guide the player to the nearest shipwreck or ocean ruin—a feature far more useful than simply boosting boats. When two penguins are fed, one lays an egg on the ground (preferring ice blocks) and the other sits on top to hatch it, with the egg being collectible using Silk Touch. Additionally, adult penguins are protective and will attack anyone who dares to hurt their chicks

 

Dolphins already have a mechanic for reaching underwater structures, so perhaps the penguin could help the player reach the surface quickly by pulling them from the bottom of the water if they are drowning.This was a suggestion from a comment below, and I thought it was amazing.

    It would be cool to see some new mechanics with the penguins as well, but even just as ambience they would be nice

    Dolphin already has the "guides you to nearby treasure/structure when fed with fish" gimmick. That's a mob behavior overlap right there. It'd be cooler if Penguin could do something else differently to make them distinct, in my opinion.

    What about penguins pushing you to the water surface when you're out of breath/drowning underwater? So, no more panicking while orienting yourself swimming upwards—penguins will help you catch your breath swiftly.

    Sounds like a amazing idea! I've been waiting for the penguin to come to Minecraft for a long time, this would be the perfect opportunity!

    The Penguin would be awesome for this drop, but I think its function of boosting boats is actually really useful and should stay, if it's more consistent than dolphins boosting swimming

    The original penguins were planned for the stony shores iirc. It would still be cool if they were added, alongside other variants, like ones that spawn in the snowy biomes.

    Hi everyone. Although I have played Minecraft for an insane amount of years now, this is my first time commenting on a requested feature. I think the penguin would be a fantastic addition to the colder biomes. As great as the ice caves are, above ground will still feel somewhat bland in my personal opinion. I think small groups of penguins around five to ten would be awesome, just like in the real world. I wonder if it could have a similar mechanic to turtles where they drop an item over time or from breeding, and you could craft flipper boots which allow you to sprint normally on ice. This would be a great addition to exploring above ground and in the new icy caves below. The boots would have many new use cases in survival, in pvp maps, etc. It would be awesome if the baby version could be able to fit/be in front of the parent’s feet just like real life. I think out of every animal possible, this is by far a no brainer to add so much depth to the colder biomes and fits greatly with the other animals already in the game. I think this would also have a lot of potential for a fishing update at some point in the future and would give more/different reasons to fish. Maybe if you catch a specific fish (when more types are added), maybe it breeds a specific penguin or something along those lines.  Sorry for the long paragraph but I feel as though this is a very important animal for Minecraft and its branding.     Penguins should (instead of doing the exact thing a dolphin does) grab fish from the water and feed it to their chicks. They could also dive underwater if fed fish and give you an "ocean treasure".

    I think penguins being able to help the player fish could be a cool feature. Definitely would make farming fish less tedious and would be in line with how they behave in real life catching fish for their chicks.

    I don't think penguins living in caves would make much sense, but it would work on other snowy biomes.
