With the Sift becoming Minecraft's fourth dimension, I think it should have a natural place in the game's main progression instead of being completely optional.
Currently, the Eye of Ender has two different functions: locating Strongholds and activating End Portals. My suggestion is to split these functions between two items.
The existing Eye of Ender would keep its current recipe using an Ender Pearl and Blaze Powder, but it would only be used to activate End Portal frames.
A new item called the Echo Eye would be crafted from an Ender Pearl and a new material found in the Sift. It would have its own texture and unique animation. When used, it would behave similarly to the current Eye of Ender and guide the player toward the nearest Stronghold.
This would naturally integrate the Sift into Minecraft's progression:
Overworld -> Nether + Sift -> End
The Nether would still be required because regular Eyes of Ender are needed to activate the End Portal, while visiting the Sift would provide the material needed to locate a Stronghold.
This would also avoid completely disrupting speedrunning. Players using known seeds or already knowing Stronghold coordinates would still be able to reach the Stronghold without using an Echo Eye.
Splitting these two functions would give the Sift an important purpose in progression while keeping the existing End Portal system familiar.
