I think the recent changes to Ender Pearls and other PvP mechanics should be handled differently. Instead of completely removing or changing mechanics that many players use, Mojang could add gamerules to let servers and worlds choose which behavior they want.
For example:
- "/gamerule doPearlMomentum true/false", lets players choose whether Ender Pearls keep their momentum.
- A gamerule for attribute swapping, lets servers enable or disable the mechanic.
- A gamerule for shield stunning, lets servers decide whether shields can be stunned.
This would let Mojang keep the changes for players who prefer the new mechanics while still giving PvP servers and communities the option to use the older mechanics.
Minecraft has many different ways to play, so giving server owners more control would be better than completely removing mechanics that are important to certain communities. This could also reduce conflicts between casual players, technical players, and PvP players because each server could choose the rules that fit its gameplay.
