Snowlogging would let snow layers share the same block space with certain blocks, similar to how waterlogging works.
With the upcoming ice-themed game drop, this feels like a good time to bring the idea up again.
Snow currently creates very noticeable gaps around builds in snowy biomes. Stairs, slabs, fences, walls, plants and other non-full blocks often remain completely clear while everything around them is covered in snow. It becomes especially noticeable in villages and detailed builds, where the snow often looks less like something that naturally fell and more like it was manually placed around the structure.
Bedrock Edition already does some of this with vegetation, so the idea isn't completely foreign to Minecraft either. Bringing similar behaviour to Java would also make snowy environments feel a little more consistent between the two editions.
It would be great if snow could naturally settle on things like plants, fences, walls and some partial blocks, while still letting players place snow there manually when building. Even if it only worked with a limited set of compatible blocks, it would make a surprisingly big difference.
Snowlogging would make the surface of snowy biomes feel much more complete and will allow players to interact more with cold biomes.
