I think Sift portal travel could work similarly to the Nether, but with the coordinate scaling reversed.
In the Nether, 1 block in the Nether corresponds to 8 blocks in the Overworld.
My idea is for the Sift to work the other way around: 1 block in the Overworld = 8 blocks in the Sift.
For example, if two Ancient City portals in the Overworld are 1000 blocks apart, their corresponding portals in the Sift would be 8000 blocks apart. I think this could be especially useful for exploring the Sift. If Ancient City portals are relatively close to each other in the Overworld, activating multiple portals normally wouldn't provide much benefit, since they could lead to locations in the Sift that are only a few hundred blocks apart. With an 8× distance multiplier, those same portals could lead to completely different regions of the Sift. This would make activating and using multiple Ancient City portals much more useful, while also making it possible to use the Overworld to efficiently travel between distant areas of the Sift.
Example:
Ancient City Portal A → Overworld coordinates: 0, 0
Ancient City Portal B → Overworld coordinates: 1000, 1000
Sift Portal A → 0, 0
Sift Portal B → 8000, 8000
This would make the Sift function almost like a large-scale exploration dimension, while still keeping the familiar portal-linking mechanics from the Nether.
