Minecraft Unified Play
One community. Two editions. One shared world.
Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition let millions of players enjoy Minecraft, but players using different editions cannot simply join the same normal world together.
I propose Minecraft Unified Play: an official compatibility layer built into Minecraft that allows Java and Bedrock players to play together without requiring Geyser, proxies, third-party software, or an external server just to bridge the two editions.
A player could create a normal world, enable “Java/Bedrock Cross-Play,” and invite friends from the other edition:
Create World → Enable Cross-Play → Invite Friends → Play
Java would remain Java. Bedrock would remain Bedrock. Unified Play would act as a bridge rather than replacing either edition.
Compatibility could begin with vanilla gameplay such as movement, blocks, inventory, entities, chat, survival, and building, then expand over time.
Servers would still be important for minigames, communities, persistent worlds, custom modes, events, and large multiplayer experiences. Unified Play would simply remove the need for a server or third-party bridge when friends only want to play together.
Don't turn Java into Bedrock.
Don't turn Bedrock into Java.
Connect both communities.
One game. Two editions. One community. One shared world.
