    While it could be interesting to have to make your way to the center of the world to fight the dragon, I feel like that is already the case with the Overworld and the Nether. You spawn in random locations and then have to search for specific structures and bosses. I like how the End currently is, as you think that you are at the end of the game and then find out that there is more to do. The whole "The End." -> "The End?" achievements. If it was the other way around, then the Ender Dragon fight would truly feel more like the end of the game, which I do not like. It's Minecraft, there's not supposed to be an end or defined goal, other than creativity.

    One interesting idea is that once you enter the End, you are stuck there until the Ender Dragon is defeated. So you can leave the main island and explore the outer island before the dragon is defeated, but if you die, it is like your respawn point in anchored to this dimension, so you will just respawn back here. Maybe at one of the outer end islands instead. So you enter the End, fight the dragon, and if you die, you end up all the way out at the outer islands and have to make your way back
