Device: iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd gen), model iPad7,1, A10X chip
OS: iPadOS 17.7.11 (build 21H461)
Minecraft: 1.26.51 (build 1.26.51.01)
Summary:
Since updating to 1.26.51, Minecraft crashes on every launch. The Mojang splash plays ~4 seconds, then the app closes to Home Screen. 100% reproducible; main menu is unreachable. Device ran previous versions fine.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch Minecraft on the setup above.
2. Wait through the splash animation (~4s).
3. App crashes to Home Screen every time.
Already tried (no effect): latest app version confirmed, 70GB+ free storage, background apps closed, full delete + reinstall, device restart.
Crash log analysis:
Pulled the .ips from Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Analytics Data. It's EXC_CRASH/SIGABRT on thread "Rendering Pool(0)", ~4s post-launch. Stack (innermost first):
-[AGXTexture initWithDevice:desc:isSuballocDisabled:]
-> -[MTLTextureDescriptorInternal validateWithDevice:]
-> MTLValidateFeatureSupport
-> MTLReportFailure -> __assert_rtn -> abort()
Renderer requests a texture format/feature Metal's validation flags unsupported by the AGXMetalA10 driver (A10X GPU), so Metal intentionally aborts rather than failing silently.
Looks like a regression in 26.50/26.51 (Third Drop 2026): a new rendering feature has no fallback for older GPU feature sets (A10/A10X). Device is capped at iPadOS 17 and can't update further, so an OS update isn't a workaround.
Full .ips crash log attached.
