Minecraft Bedrock Edition would greatly benefit from a proper off-hand system similar to Java Edition. However, if a full off-hand system cannot be added soon, I would also like to suggest improving the item support available to add-ons that simulate an off-hand system.
Many add-ons try to implement an off-hand using scripts, custom UI, and item components, but there are still limitations with which items can be held, rendered, used, or activated from a simulated off-hand.
It would be especially useful if Bedrock allowed more items to properly support off-hand-like behavior, including:
- More items being usable from an off-hand slot.
- Better support for items with right-click/use actions.
- Shields and other defensive items working correctly.
- Fireworks and other items interacting correctly when used from the off-hand.
- Better rendering of items held in a custom off-hand slot.
- More consistent support for item components and interactions when an item is moved between hands.
- Better scripting/API support for detecting and controlling an item's off-hand state.
This would not only help players who want an official off-hand system, but would also give add-on creators more possibilities to create reliable off-hand systems until an official implementation is available.
Please consider expanding the capabilities of the Bedrock scripting API, item components, and rendering system to make off-hand add-ons more complete and compatible with more vanilla items.
