Update messed up mouse controls

My mouse controls no longer work well.  After today's update, have problems:

a) Wheel rotation sends selection over by 2, not just 1.  Have to roll past end of hot-bar and come around to the one I wanted.  Not nice in a fast-move situation (fighting mobs or lava)

b) "popping" something is erratic.  Like "open door" pop it once or 12 times, nothing happens.  Then next time door opens.  Or opens and closes. Open/close  chest same "controls"

I have tried:

1) changing mouse settings in Minecraft menu.

2) changing physical mouse (hard-wired and also "USB-wireless" mouse).  Same thing.

3) Forced cold reboot (holding power switch for long time til it shuts off)

Have NOT tried un-installing Minecraft and re-installing it.
