Add Player Gliding State Control to the Bedrock Script API
Please add native gliding state controls for normal players in the Bedrock Script API.
Currently, Player exposes isGliding, but it is read-only. Meanwhile, GameTest's SimulatedPlayer already has glide() and stopGliding() methods.
I would like similar functionality to be exposed for normal Player objects, for example:
player.startGliding();
player.stopGliding();
The important part is that this should use Minecraft's actual native gliding state rather than requiring creators to imitate Elytra flight with velocity or movement scripts.
When gliding is started through the API, the player should use the same internal gliding mechanics as vanilla Elytra flight, including the normal player pose/animation, gliding physics, state detection, collision behavior, and normal transitions when landing or entering water.
Ideally, scripts should be able to decide their own requirements for entering the gliding state instead of requiring the vanilla Elytra item. This would allow creators to implement custom Elytra, powered gliders, flight suits, jetpacks with a glide mode, and other equipment while still using Minecraft's native flight mechanics.
Currently, recreating Elytra-like movement manually cannot fully reproduce the internal vanilla gliding state and can cause inconsistencies with normal gameplay.
A native gliding API would let Add-Ons extend Minecraft's existing movement system instead of replacing it with custom physics.
