I propose adding a "hardcore discovery" survival mode where the player cannot see potion or enchantment effects—and is unable to perform certain actions—until the character actually learns about them.
For example, enchantment books would be unlabeled. The name of the enchantment would only be revealed when the player attempts to apply the book to an item. Once discovered, all books containing that specific enchantment would become identifiable, while the others would remain unknown until their respective enchantments were unlocked.
This would introduce an element of exploration: players would need to collect every enchantment they encounter and test its effects to learn the full range of possibilities.
The same logic would apply to potions: their effects—and even their color—would remain hidden until the player tastes the potion or uses it on someone.
Even during brewing, the result would appear as a generic "mysterious potion" until tasted. This would extend to different potion tiers, requiring players to sample and "research" the effects of each one after brewing.
This concept could also apply to the Wither: the player would be unable to spawn the boss until they had first seen a specific image or depiction of it.
Nether portals could work similarly: if a player hasn't encountered a ruined portal in the world, they wouldn't be able to activate a portal anywhere else. Only after finding at least one existing portal would the player gain the ability to construct their own.
