Chainmail Armor Redesign

I figured chainmail armor deserves a chance to thrive and I had a thought of how that can be possible. Introduce a feature called "Under Armor", 4 additional armor slots next to the current armor slots where chainmail can be placed. Just like in real life, it would be for extra protection and the current armors sets can be redesigned with gaps so that it can show off the chainmail. 

It can be crafted like normal armor along with shears so that it gives that effect of cutting it into chains, you can use the smithing table but putting a normal piece of armor with shears, or just use the chain item in the armor patterns. I believe this can give players aesthetic creativity along with adding a new depth for combat. It would come in every armor tier variety from leather to netherite and still keeping the traits from those materials like netherite being unable to burn or leather being dyeable.

A full set of armor with chainmail would give a effect similar to the resistance effect with the netherite variety being equivalent to resistance 1. To keep this balanced spears, arrows, and maces can wear down the chainmail quickly just like real chainmail historically. Chainmail can also be equipped without armor, but while it can resists swords and axes well the other weapons I listed would wear through it even quicker. 

I also think the Under Armor mechanic can have potential in the future, maybe equipping the turtle shell for swimming and water breathing.
