I propose modifying the beacon so that, instead of shining straight up, its beam can be redirected using amethyst crystals. However, there must be an open path to the sky above the beacon.
This means the beam can be redirected any number of times; the crucial requirement is that the final crystal points toward the sky (or even into bedrock) and directs the beam there. If the path above the beacon is obstructed, it won't function.
There should also be a limit on the beam's total horizontal and vertical length, corresponding to the world's height. For instance, if you place the beacon at bedrock level and position a crystal at the highest possible block, it will work—even if the horizontal distance is equally long. However, if the total length exceeds this limit, it stops working.
This way, instead of using multiple beacons, you could use just one and simply change the direction of its beam.
The beam's color would be preserved.
Additionally, the beacon could function without needing a direct line of sight to the sky or bedrock. If you arrange the crystals so that the beam eventually points back into the beacon itself—from any side except the bottom—it would remain active. This would also eliminate the need to render the beam extending high up into the sky.
