Currently, walls, fences, glass panes and iron/copper bars automatically connect to any adjacent block, wall or pane. This heavily limits advanced and creative detailing and design.
My proposal is a universal and survival-friendly solution for all platforms: Allow players to crouch-interact/shift-click with an empty hand to toggle the connection of a wall, pane, bars, or fence post ON/OFF. Keeping this to an empty-hand shift-click mechanic would also leave shift-clicking with a block in hand as a standard method of block placement on walls.
This is vanilla-friendly as it requires no new tool, item, or block menu, and is compatible across all Bedrock platforms and could work on Java as well, which would also add notable parity between the two editions.
This would unlock immense creative freedom, allowing for adjacent pillars and poles made from walls and fences, and from glass binding to unconventional blocks like dirt.
