There is a very narrow list of villager trades worth using, as a few options clearly overshadow all others in how easy they are to use in comparison. I think these easy options are mostly okay, but the useless options need a buff; specifically:
- Selling 1 diamond for an emerald will never be worth it, 1 diamond is worth far more than 32 sticks or 24 wheat. Make a diamond worth a LEAST an emerald block, maybe even worth up to 32 emeralds. It is surely possible for a villager to give more than 1 emerald per trade, since they are seen selling 6 bread for 1 emeralds (proving that can give you more than 1 item per trade)
- Mining emerald ore is never a good way to gather emeralds. They should either be made much more common (at LEAST common as gold), OR drop huge amounts of emeralds per ore (Much more than even redstone, around a stack of emerald if not more). Otherwise, emerald ore will remain as little more than a rare novelty with no practical use other than a rare useless block people can brag about owning (which is a role already fulfilled by the dragon egg, or enchanted golden apple [the enchanted golden apple also does have uses]).
- Lava bucket for 1 emerald looks like a better trade than 4 iron for an emerald, until you remember that automatic iron farms are the only reason that people use the iron for emerald trade at all. You cannot carry many lava buckets in your inventory compared to iron ingots.
