Right now, our game has an extremely wide variety of copper items, and each of them comes in states like normal, waxed, Exposed, weathered, and oxidized. Treating each state as a separate block in the game isn’t a good idea—it also makes players’ inventories way too chaotic and complicated.
I propose introducing a new item called Verdigris. It would drop when players break copper items that are already in an oxidized state: 1 from Exposed, 2 from weathered, and 3 from oxidized. Waxed blocks would also drop a honeycomb. The items you mine would no longer have an oxidation stage or be waxed by default. Using an axe on these blocks would also give Verdigris, and mining copper ore could yield it too.
Just like honeycombs, Verdigris can be applied directly to various copper items to increase their oxidation level. After three applications, a copper item would be fully oxidized. This would greatly simplify the clutter of copper items in players’ inventories and make things much easier for developers as well. As a raw material, it could also be used in crafting to create armor with a unique greenish patina.
