Accessible sand renewability has been heavily requested. Gravel has less use but spikes in need alongside Sand when using concrete.
The intention is to give these resources engaging, automatable and scalable renewable sources.
Hay bales and a new Sugarcane Block act as simple sediment filters.
Placing either block upright at the surface of a body of water collects corresponding sediment. The player can infer:
- Hay collects sand as its thin strands trap fine particles.
- Sugarcane stalks trap larger particles of gravel.
These are already heavily farmed crops and can feed into many other systems.
Large instillations can be built - waterline infrastructure is uncommon in Minecraft. Sugarcane blocks also provide a reversible storage option.
The Brush (instantly) extracts the sediment, as a small cost. It consumes durability at a slower rate than normal (64 too low). Dispenser, hoppers, and observers work with this system.
Rammed earth could be a resource sink for both sand and gravel. 3 sand, 3 gravel + 3 clay balls makes 2 Rammed Earth, lossy to indicate compression.
Using one of each material in a composter (mimicing irl formwork) acts as an interactive way to make rammed earth. this method is far less lossy, so rammed earth creation is not always stifled, but requires interaction/automation.
replace sand with red sand and a red-pinkish variant is created - a cool badlands specific block, red sand also has limited building use.
