Minecraft Bedrock once allowed players to use custom skin packs with full 3D geometry, giving skins much more personality than simple Steve/Alex textures. Bringing this feature back would be a huge win for creativity—but this time, it should be rebuilt with PvP fairness at its core.
The biggest issue today is the inconsistency: official paid DLC skins such as Hello Kitty, Huggy Wuggy, and Cat Noir can use custom 3D geometry, while ordinary players cannot freely use the same type of customization. Worse, these models can look dramatically smaller or larger than a normal player while their hitbox remains standard-sized.
That creates a confusing PvP experience:
A tiny-looking character still has a normal hitbox.
An oversized character still has the same hitbox.
Players are forced to aim based on a model that does not actually represent its collision area.
Instead of banning custom geometry, Minecraft could solve the underlying problem.
My proposal
Bring full custom 3D Skin Packs back for everyone—free and paid—but introduce clear competitive rules:
Fair hitboxes: Either scale hitboxes within strict limits to match the character's visual size, or make all custom geometry render at a standardized PvP size.
Anti-visibility abuse: Restrict skins with excessive transparency or designs intentionally made to make players difficult to see.
Competitive compatibility: Give servers/game modes the ability to require standardized PvP geometry while allowing full customization elsewhere.
Better report protection: Prevent coordinated or mass-report abuse from automatically causing penalties without proper evidence and verification.
This would preserve the creativity that made custom skin packs special without turning unusual models into a competitive advantage.
Minecraft already demonstrates that custom 3D character models are possible. The goal should not be to take that freedom away from players—it should be to make the system fair enough that everyone can enjoy it.
Bring back custom 3D skins.
Make them available to everyone.
Fix the PvP rules instead of removing the feature.
That would give Bedrock the customization players have been asking for while keeping multiplayer fair for everyone, regardless of whether their skin is free or paid.
