Campfires may be one of the best cosmetic blocks because of the unique appearance and being a slab. One I found myself using quite often in a wood dense fishing village I have been building with friends for almost 5 years.
Over my 12 years of Minecraft, I have had random campfire re-lighting a few other times, but to far lesser extents, but now that I have researched it a bit. I am baffled this mechanic has not been fixed.
This was the explanation google provided -
"During a server lag spike, the game struggles to process time properly, causing "random ticks" or scheduled block updates to bunch up and execute all at once. When the server catches up, this sudden burst of processed ticks can falsely trigger the campfire's fire-spread or block-state check, forcing an unlit campfire to register as active and ignite adjacent flammable blocks."
I understand fire tick can be turned off, but that is an essential mechanic to several farms and just to the Minecraft world in general. It is possible, I am only this passionate due the recency of this, but figured I'd throw it out there and see if the community also shares my disdain for the reckless beauty that is the campfire.
