Minecraft heavily promotes paid Marketplace add-ons to Nintendo Switch players, but in my experience they make the game extremely unstable.
I have plenty of free storage on both my Switch and memory card, very few Minecraft worlds, and I’ve already cleared caches, checked for corrupt data, redownloaded the game, and tested add-ons individually when my world was much smaller. It still crashed, even with lighter add-ons.
There is no consistent trigger. Sometimes I can play 10 minutes, sometimes 45. It crashes while building, in inventory, in settings, while idle, and even while saving. If the game starts lagging, I often try to open the pause menu to Save & Quit, but it can crash before the menu even opens, causing me to lose progress.
“Disable the add-ons” is not a reasonable solution either. I have 20+ builds using paid add-on content. Removing a pack replaces its items with ugly question-mark blocks, meaning I would have to manually search every build and repair them.
If Switch cannot reliably run Marketplace add-ons, why are they being pushed and sold to Switch users? I’ve spent a lot on content I can’t reliably use. Add-ons need better Switch testing, clearer device-specific warnings, and better crash/save protection.
