I was so curious as to why I couldn't find that post! How many votes did it get to before it was deleted?

Also, MOJANG...REVERT THIS CHANGE!!! The vast majority of players never interact with this feature, but the people who did were able to make amazing creations with it. There is literally no other way to make those builds without this "bug"

The majority of players outside of the technical community do not consciously use/interact with this feature, as the most significant interaction they would commonly come across is redirecting a ghast fireball with an arrow. Because of that, this bug should really be marked as IAW rather than being fixed.

Similar to the case of quasi connectivity with pistons and other relevant redstone components, this bug has no negative impact on normal gameplay, while simultaneously opening the door to so many interesting and unique possibilities that are only recently starting to be explored.

By "fixing" this bug, it would not only deprive the technical community of the only way to get and use the player view angle in Vanilla gameplay, it would also deprive the Minecraft community as a whole of the countless creations that will inevitably come from its usage. Just within the last year people have been able to make incredible creations using this tech (all of which would disappear if this fix goes through), and it is starting to be understood enough to the point that simpler applications are seeping into more casual spheres of play, like in the case of teleportation stations.

All that to say, please keep this as a feature in the game.

There was 0 reason to fix this bug, as it doesn't have any severe drawbacks to existing, while it provides effective utility for allowing players to make more interesting constructions.
Please revert and don't delete this thread.

0 Reason to fix this "bug" when it's used in extremely cool redstone systems to detect where a player is looking. If Mojang wants to fix this bug they should give us a better solution for detecting where a player is looking. This bug does not impact normal players outside of very limited encounters with ghasts, and if Mojang is that concerned about ghast encounters they should fix this bug specifically for the ghast fireball and leave the wind charge and other projectiles alone.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but it should just be fixed, I and many others didn't even know it was a thing. And it feels unintuitive as a game design.

Where did the original post go? I've been playing this game since beta... I think it'd be better to just leave this one alone. Hope ya'll listen to the people.

I feel like technical players have been a little neglected, but...it's fine we don't mind. Just please let us have this one thing.

MC-101770 does not affect a majority of players. Fixing it will not improve the game in any way. Meanwhile, removing it will massively affect the players that do actually care about and use it. It has sparked so much creativity... Isn't that what Minecraft is about? This fix poses no benefits and simply goes against everything that Minecraft stands for, please reconsider and revert the "fix".

Out of the redstone side of things, this is also just really useful. Killing ghasts should be about skill and not praying for the ghast ai to fly into its own deflected fireball. Also the redstone side of things. PLEASE REVERT THIS FIX

If the change goes through tons of my builds will break as a logical redstoner

The vast majority of players only ever interact this behavior when shooting a ghast fireball with a bow, where the fireball will subtly move towards where they are looking (usually at the ghast) rather than being directly reflected back, which makes "return to sender" marginally easier and more intuitive to get. This behavior is actually a good *feature* for that reason alone, even without mentioning all of the really cool and innovative technical work that would be broken, in my opinion.

Looks like the change has for now been reverted, but I would encourage Mojang to mark this as Works As Intended so future redstoners don't need to worry about whether this will remain in the game.

While it isn't the most intuitive mechanic, once you see it once it is pretty understandable, and can be used to the player's advantage in PVP / PVE.

The potential of this mechanic in redstone is absolutely insane. Being able to have effective mouse-tracking allows a lot of really cool redstone user interfaces (aiming a cannon, selecting a square in a redstone game, activating devices remotely). Allowing the community to utilize niche mechanics in these insanely creative ways is what makes Minecraft one of the best sandbox games of all time.

Removing this doesn't really affect the causal playerbase at all and takes out a really cool mechanic for enfranchised players, please mark this as Works As Intended.
