The change to chains in the Bedrock 26.50.25 Preview is very problematic for many players. The treatment of chains as a solid block (which was carried through to the copper chains when they were added) is relied on by players frequently for the unique property. Specifically, the mechanic we rely on most is the ability for comparators to read inventories through chains. This mechanic has been around for many years, since chains were first added in 1.16, and that amount of time has allowed technical players to design hundreds (and build thousands) of mechanisms that rely on chains being treated as a solid block. Were this change to continue to stable, it would cause all of those designs to break.
The properties found in chains are irreplaceable by any other block (especially the fact that they are a partial block). Without an alternative, players also lose the ability to fix their existing designs, forcing them to build often worse ones that do not rely on this mechanic.
