The music discs would still play music in a jukebox, but if you make an upgrader (brand new block like a job site), putting a disc in it will consume the disc and give you the associated player upgrade. These would appear as additional HUD data and would not use any inventory slots.
Each music disc type would have a different upgrade associated with it. Not all discs would need to give upgrades, and some upgrades might be available through two different discs.
Some upgrades might be good enough that they should disappear on respawn. And the weaker upgrades should also have a chance to drop as loot from slain players.
Upgrade ideas:
- Knowing current XYZ coordinates (useful for when you don't want to bother with F3 in Java or you want to leave coordinates off in Bedrock starting out).
- Name/information on current Biome.
- Current light level (and allowing Pick Block to sense light level on nearby blocks).
- Current depth underground (not your Y coordinate, but the distance to the nearest air block directly overhead that can see the sky).
- Diagonal distance to nearest player (as an upgrade to player locator).
- Approximate direction to nearest hostile mob; works like player locator but for mobs.
- Diagonal distance to last known spawn point (limited to same plane), even if bed/straw bed gets broken.
- Knowing specific durability points remaining for the current item in hand.
- Redstone sense to detect current signal level on a circuit (use Pick Block to select).
