Blackstone Furnaces: The Nether Smelting Guide
Blackstone serves as the ultimate cobblestone alternative when surviving in the hostile Nether dimension. This dark rock functions exactly like traditional overworld cobblestone for crafting essential utility blocks, allowing players to build a fully operational industrial base without ever returning to the surface.
Crafting & Upgrades
The standard blackstone furnace shares an identical recipe layout with the vanilla version.
- Standard Furnace: Place 8 blocks of raw Blackstone along the outer border of a 3x3 crafting grid, leaving the center empty.
- Blast Furnace: Combine 1 Furnace, 5 Iron Ingots, and 3 Smooth Stone blocks. It smelts metals at double speed.
- Smoker: Combine 1 Furnace with 4 logs or Nether stems. It cooks food at double speed.
Nether-Sourced Fuel Efficiency
True Nether survival means running your smelters completely on localized fuel alternatives.
- Lava Bucket: Smelts 100 items. Excellent for large industrial batches.
- Blaze Rod: Smelts 12 items. Highly renewable via fortress farms.
- Coal Block / Coal: Smelt 80 / 8 items. Found in fortress chests.
- Nether Stems / Slabs: Smelt 1 item. Good for emergency fuel.
Automation Blueprint
Connect hoppers to automate your system. Place an Input Hopper on top for raw materials, a Fuel Hopper on the side for lava or blaze rods, and a Collection Hopper underneath feeding into an output chest.
