In real life, some poplar trees grow much taller while remaining relatively thin. It would be great to have the option to grow this type of poplar tree in Minecraft as well.
The idea is to require only three saplings instead of four, unlike the large spruce tree. This would make the tall poplar different from the mega spruce, or the large jungle tree, by being smaller overall while still offering a unique style. Using three saplings instead of a 2x2 arrangement would also allow for rotational variation.
