Minecraft's equipment system has barely changed since release. I would love to see an "Equipment Update" that expands survival without changing its core gameplay.
Add three new equipment slots beside the armor slots:
Gloves
Two Utility Pouches
Lantern Slot
Gloves would have their own durability and make exploration more interesting. They protect your hands from Sweet Berry Bushes, allow safe berry harvesting, and reduce environmental damage to your equipment.
Sweet Berry Bushes should interact with armor. Leather reduces damage, while stronger armor (Iron, Diamond and Netherite) prevents health damage but may lose a small amount of durability instead. Bushes could never break armor completely, always leaving it at 1 durability. Sprinting through bushes could also knock berries off naturally.
Lantern would be a wearable light source with its own durability bar. Instead of fuel, it is recharged by holding a button while the player performs a small hand-crank animation. It has two lighting modes: a wide nearby light for mining and a focused long-distance beam for exploration. Two enchantments could improve recharge speed and battery life.
The goal isn't to make players stronger, but to make equipment more useful and exploration more immersive.
