The Merchant Update: Expanding Player Shops and Communities
Minecraft players already create towns, markets, and businesses using existing blocks. The Merchant Update would add more tools to make these creations easier and more interactive.
A new Register block would allow players to create automated shops. The owner would be the only person able to edit the item being sold, the payment, and the settings.
Menu Books would let players create item catalogs, menus, and advertisements by displaying items, prices, and descriptions. Pages could also be displayed in item frames.
Merchant Carts would allow players to travel while carrying storage, registers, and shop supplies.
New building blocks could improve shops:
- Shop Roofs that can be colored with dyes, turned into striped designs, and customized with banner patterns as logos.
- Double-Sided Shelves for displaying items on both sides.
- Glass Doors for stores and displays.
Multiplayer security could include:
- Iron Chests with passcodes.
- Locked Levers that protect doors and only allow approved players to open them.
- Optional arrow-based security systems using Minecraft-style defenses.
A Canvas block could allow players to create shop logos, artwork, and avatar portraits using Minecraft usernames with moderation and privacy options.
An Application Catalog could let players list businesses with names, descriptions, locations, and logos so shops are easier to find.
Crafting recipes can be handled by mojang studios.
