My idea would involve being able to apply armor patterns to blocks, so you can see the patterns directly on the blocks, and being able to change their colour using ores. This could be done by first right-clicking with the pattern, which would apply it to the block whilst displaying the pattern in a neutral colour, such as grey (?), and then right-clicking with a compatible ore to change the colour. To remove the pattern and the ore, you’d need to use a brush, which would first return the ore, then the pattern. But you could also retrieve the block with the pattern using Silk Touch; however, if you were to break the block – whether by hand, due to an explosion, or without Silk Touch – the block would drop as normal.
This would allow you to create amazing decorations in bases and even, in future official Minecraft dungeons, add that little bit extra! It would also be a way, via these dungeons, to obtain borders and ores (though this would remain quite rare).
