Filter Block

The Filter Block is a compact utility block that allows players to sort up to five different item types using a single block. Items are inserted from a hopper above and extracted through a hopper below. Players configure the accepted items in a simple GUI, making automatic storage much smaller and easier to build. A typical setup would be: Chest → Hopper → Filter Block → Hopper → Storage Chest The biggest advantage is performance. Current item sorters require many hoppers, comparators, repeaters, and redstone updates, especially in large storage systems. A dedicated Filter Block would dramatically reduce the number of components, resulting in better server performance, less lag, lower resource costs, and much more compact storage designs. It would also make automatic sorting more accessible for newer players while still leaving room for advanced redstone contraptions. For its appearance, the Filter Block could resemble the Crafter, but with the Scaffolding top texture to clearly distinguish it. A fitting crafting recipe could simply combine 1 Crafter + 1 Scaffolding, representing automated item filtering. Minecraft has already modernized automation with the Crafter. The Filter Block would be the next logical step, improving storage systems without replacing existing redstone creativity. It would especially benefit survival players, technical builders, and multiplayer servers by providing a cleaner, more efficient, and performance-friendly way to organize items.
