I would like to suggest adding Gliders as a new early-game mobility item.
The goal is not to replace Elytra, but to give players a useful way to descend safely before reaching the End.
Features:
- Slows the player's falling speed.
- Allows limited directional control while descending.
- Cannot gain speed or altitude.
- Cannot be boosted with fireworks.
- Equips in the chest slot.
- Has limited durability.
A simple crafting recipe could use:
- Wool Slabs (as the glider's fabric).
- Branches (as the frame).
- Wood.
This would make Gliders accessible early in Survival while keeping Elytra as the ultimate late-game aerial mobility item.
Gliders would make mountain exploration more enjoyable, help players cross ravines, make building tall structures safer, and reduce accidental fall deaths.
They would also create a natural progression for aerial mobility:
Normal Falling → Feather Falling Boots → Glider → Elytra
I believe Gliders would be a balanced addition that expands exploration and movement options without reducing the value or uniqueness of Elytra. They would fit naturally into Minecraft's survival progression and encourage creative exploration throughout the early and mid-game.
