Dial back the underwater cave generation please

Used to be able to consistently mine 100 blocks in a direction without running into water, now with the updates from the past year or so it seems like you can't anymore. Doesn't seem to matter where I go or what biome. I don't want to have to go all the way down to deepslate level to avoid it. Underwater caves are a great idea but that doesn't mean you need one every five feet. Thank you
